MONTHLY SALARY RANGE: $2924-$3555
THE POSITION:
The Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff has requested that an eligible list be established to fill Sheriff Ranger vacancies. This is an excellent employment opportunity for individuals interested in beginning a law enforcement career. Individuals appointed to these positions are responsible for providing non-sworn facility security and field patrol services in designated buildings, health clinics, courthouses, parks, or special districts. Sheriffs Rangers are non-sworn personnel reporting to sworn personnel. Responsibilities performed by Sheriffs Rangers include monitoring electronic security and screening devices, observing, identifying, and reporting violations and emergencies to sworn personnel, as well as providing directions and answering questions from the public and issuing citations for parking, fishing, or boating violations. The employment list established by this examination will remain in effect for six months.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
License Required: Possession of a valid California motor vehicle operators license. Valid, out-of-state motor vehicle operators license will be accepted during the application process.
Education: Possession of a high school diploma, GED equivalency, or a high school proficiency certificate.
Other Requirements: Ability to pass a background investigation conducted by the Sheriffs Office prior to employment.

SELECTION PROCESS:
1. Written Examination: A written examination will be administered to assess candidates job-related skills. Candidates must receive a score of at least 70% on this examination in order to be invited to participate in the Oral Examination. (Weighted 60%)
2. Oral Interview: An oral interview will be conducted by a Qualifications Appraisal Board in Martinez, CA. The board will evaluate candidates in job-related areas. Candidates must receive a rating of at least 70 from a majority of the Board members to be ranked on the employment list. (Weighted 40%)
