Antique Genuine Real Black Bear Lined and Quilted Carriage Blanket Crosby Frisian Fur Co Rochester, NY . Is approx. 5' 5" long, from neck to butt. It is 5'6" wide, from back leg to back leg. It is 4' 10" wide, from front leg to front leg. It is 4' 7" long, from front leg to back leg. Made by Crosby Frisian Fur Co. out of Rochester, N.Y. The fur co began in 1889 and operated up to 1960. Believed to be made between 1940s and the 1960s. Approx weight is 10 pounds. Has handles on both sides of underside to hold whole you were sitting on the sleigh carriage to keep it comfortably on you. Zoom in on underside pic for close ups. Underside of carriage blanket is believed to be a soft, (mohair?) lining with a green foliage pattern, with a felt black trim. Has Sewn in label The Crosby Frisian Fur Co. Rochester, N.Y. on underside of blanket. See last pic.
In overall great condition for age. Felt edging trim is fully intact , no damage. It does not have heavy fold lines like many do. It lays flat very nicely. No bug moth holes. Has a spot along the edge of the bear, along felt trim, where the hide is slightly wrinkling see pic 7. There is also one small spot where there is a slight wrinkle slit, that can easily be fixed. See pics 5 and 6. I showed an after pic where it basically becomes not noticeable. Also has a small spot on under mohair lining where a small tear had been professionally stitched, quite a few years ago. Or possibly when it was being originally made that spot was there and it just has, over time, come slightly undone. See pic 8.
